The Gardening Bee workers focused on specific tasks in the garden, which the Wednesday gardeners decided they needed help with.
These included pruning the pigeon peas that had grown to monster proportions.
These pioneer plants. which also helped fix nitrogen into the soil, were great to start off our food forest, shading our young fruit trees, protecting them from the winds and sharing some nitrogen as well. By 'chopping and dropping' we used the prunings as mulch.
Thank goodness for a chain saw!
Many other workers did intensive weeding and mulching around the arbour. Also, the large clumps of lemon grass were also removed (as the stalks become very fibrous and unpleasant in cooking). These clumps were then divided and new ones replanted.
We got all our jobs done!
Thank you to everyone who attended.
